Rias Vikander wasn’t always the strong, independent, and spicy ginger that she is today. As a very young child she was mysteriously orphaned, and she has no recollection of her parents. As Rias has been told, she was found playing next to the Velodyna River, southwest of Ala Mhigo. A small group of well kept, and well dressed, men and women approached Rias. Each person was bearing twin swords, and each person had their own unique shape and color of swords. One of the women kneeled to Rias and asked where her parents were. Rias told the woman that she didn’t know where they were. The small group took Rias with them on their journey.As Rias grew up, she learned that this small group of men and women were fierce hunters, and they called themselves Vipers, after the swift, and agile, apex predator. As Rias grew up watching them fight the tural vidraals all over Eorzea, her fascination with wielding the twinfang swords became a burning desire! She knew she wanted to wield two swords of her own and hunt down and slay these beasts! Rias continued to hone her twinfang skills, getting faster, more agile, more powerful. She has defined herself as the “Twinfang Maiden”, skillful and powerful in her craft, feared by both man and beast. If there was a vidraal anywhere in Eorzea, you shall find Rias slaying it.Not every part of Rias’ life was happy and warm though. She went through many dark days, wondering about her parents, why they left or what happened to them, or if anybody even loved her. In her mind, slaying of beasts and the slashing of her swords was her outlet for anger and frustrations, but even as endless as slaying vidraals was, those could only temporarily fill the void in her life. She yearned for more, more answers, more fame, more gil, more love. As Rias traveled and searched around for these answers, she constantly found herself having to survive from her choices’ consequences. She would get into fights with other fellow Vipers when she felt that they took her prey, to having to fight off others from trying to take advantage of her because she is a woman. This led to her spiraling down and out of control, losing trust in everybody and having to fend for herself. The life of constant slaying of beasts started to take its toll on Rias. Her skills began to wane, becoming slower, and less accurate. She couldn’t keep up with her fellow Vipers and thus losing out on the rewards of the hunt. As a result, she couldn’t produce the gil to afford her apartment any longer and became homeless. She would join with Free Companies to have access to their resources and FC housing, but it only satiated her for a short time before she had was forced to leave because of her lack of contributions. As time went on, her body was being ravaged during each battle, getting weaker and weaker. Her aether was slowly draining from her body causing a state of depression and stasis. The very lifestream of her soul, which gave her almost supernatural power and strength, was dwindling. Rias grew tired and weak. She felt she had nothing left in the world and that her final days as a Viper were soon to come. One day trying to fight off a vidraal, Rias couldn’t call upon her Reawaken skills as she had no aether left in her. Not able to strike the beast down, she was struck down and left unresponsive in the desert sand. The beast moved in to give its final death blow to Rias!It took a nearly complete destruction of a life in order to rebuild that same life back, piece by piece, to make it better, stronger, more worthwhile, and have a better meaning. Just like the Phoenix bird, it surrenders its life back to the ashes from whence it came, but only to be reborn by fire and rise up again. To this day Rias still answers the beckoning of the hunt and slays vidraals, dancing with her twin swords, the rhythm and flow of her attacks, how her body sways and moves to dodge and attack, and to people that have seen her slaying, say it is nothing short of mesmerizing. When Rias calls upon her Reawaken skill, and her body is enveloped in bright blue flames, it’s like a goddess from heaven has descended upon earth.
